This project was located in Lusaily, Dubai. The project involved building temporary access roads on dune sand to help in the construction of the Lusaily reservoir. The roads had to be sustainable in a way that will minimize the imported good fill materials, reduce the routine maintenance usually required for these roads, and can be easily disposed of without affecting the environment or having contamination with the natural sand dunes as per DEWA regulations.
Building roads on top of dunes is challenging; the conventional method of road building was not a feasible technique.
Strata utilized the same materials to build the roads and used only 5cm of gatch on top as a surfacing layer. With the aid of StrataWeb®, the sand dunes were tightly confined in cells, altering the soft formation to a very firm one, which made it possible for the heavy construction equipment to drive over.
The use of StrataWeb® resulted in reduced maintenance, cost savings and minimizing the imported fill quantity while building the access roads.
