The government of the eastern region was looking for a quick rehabilitation program for the buildings of Al Qatif, located in Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia. The client required the project to be completed in 45 days and with an aesthetically pleasing look. Another challenge faced was the weak soil quality.
These challenges required a geosynthetic approach. Based on the prevailing soil conditions, a Reinforced Soil wall system was the most preferred solution. StrataGrid™ geogrid and StrataBlock™ units were used for the construction of the Reinforced Soil wall due to their proven performance and easy installation procedure. The StrataBlock™ system has a built-in slope, is self-aligning, and is cast with an interlocking system. StrataGrid™ is a polyester, flexible, high-performance geogrid used in soil reinforcement that reduces the possibility of differential settlement caused by weak foundation soils. Since the StrataBlock™ system does not involve any concrete, a significant amount of time was saved, helping to speed up the project.
The project was completed on time, achieved an aesthetically pleasing result, and was also eco-friendly.
