Overview
How to Improve Subgrade Performance Below Structural Foundations?
Structures constructed on weak or variable subgrade soils often face challenges such as excessive settlement, reduced bearing capacity, and differential movement. These issues affect the performance of industrial facilities, warehouses, storage yards, tanks, and other load-bearing structures.
Poor soil conditions require deep foundations or extensive soil replacement, increasing construction cost and time. Improving the load-bearing performance of shallow foundation systems is essential to ensure long-term structural stability and serviceability.
Strata Geosystems offers a practical solution for improving subgrade performance beneath foundations through the use of SGBGrid™ biaxial geogrid.
Advantages of the structural foundations below

Engineering approach
SGBGrid™ is placed within the granular layer below shallow foundations or slabs, over prepared subgrade. The grid provides biaxial restraint to the aggregate layer, limiting lateral movement under applied structural loading.
The interaction between the aggregate and the grid apertures creates a stabilized composite layer that improves confinement within the reinforced zone. This reinforced layer functions as a mechanically stabilized platform beneath the foundation system.
Design is based on soil characteristics, applied structural loads, and foundation geometry to ensure appropriate reinforcement configuration.
