How to Stabilize Coastal and Marine Infrastructure?
Coastal and marine infrastructure such as revetments, breakwaters, shoreline protection systems, and port facilities must perform reliably under constant exposure to wave action, tidal forces, and hydraulic loading. These structures rely on stable foundation layers to maintain their geometry and prevent erosion of the underlying soil.
In marine environments, the movement of water can cause the migration of fine soil particles beneath armor layers or protective structures. Without effective separation and filtration, this loss of material can affect the stability of the foundation layer and compromise the performance of the coastal protection system.

Applications of coastal & marine engineering
In coastal and marine applications, StrataTex® HSR is installed as a high-strength woven geotextile layer beneath revetments, armor stone, or other protective structures. The geotextile is placed over the prepared seabed or shoreline surface prior to the placement of the overlying structural elements.
Once installed, the geotextile forms a continuous separation and filtration layer between the foundation soil and the armor layer. The material allows water to pass through the structure while retaining soil particles within the foundation layer.
By maintaining this separation between the underlying soil and the overlying protective materials, the geotextile helps preserve the integrity of the foundation layer and supports the stability of the coastal protection system.
This approach is commonly applied in shoreline stabilization works, revetment foundations, breakwater structures, and other marine infrastructure where filtration and soil retention are required beneath hydraulic structures.
