Overview

How to Stabilize Foundation Base on Weak Soils?

Stable foundations are essential for ensuring the long-term performance of structures such as buildings, storage facilities, industrial plants, and infrastructure assets. The foundation base must be capable of distributing structural loads efficiently while maintaining stability under varying ground conditions.

In locations with weak or compressible soils, conventional foundation bases may experience excessive settlement or deformation, which can affect structural performance and serviceability. These conditions often require ground improvement measures to enhance the stability and load-bearing capacity of the foundation system.

Drawing on its expertise in ground engineering, Strata delivers solutions that help strengthen foundation bases and improve soil performance beneath structural loads.

Applications of foundation base stabilization

Foundation base stabilization is achieved by installing StrataWeb® within the prepared foundation layer over the subgrade. The system forms a cellular confinement structure that contains and stabilizes the infill material placed within the cells.

During construction, the geocell panels are expanded and positioned across the foundation footprint. The cells are then filled with suitable granular materials and compacted to form the stabilized base layer.

The cellular structure confines the infill material and limits lateral movement of the particles when subjected to structural loads. As loads are transferred from the foundation into the base layer, the confined infill works together with the cellular system to distribute stresses across the reinforced layer and into the supporting soil.

This interaction between the infill material, the cellular structure, and the underlying ground forms a stabilized base that supports the foundation system under applied loads.

Advantages of foundation base stabilization

Improved load distribution beneath foundations
Reduced differential settlement
Enhanced stability over weak or compressible soils
Lower aggregate requirements in the foundation layer
Ability to utilize locally available infill materials
Simplified and efficient installation process
Long-term performance of foundation support systems
