StrataWeb® used for load support for an internal access road of the warehouse

About the project

The internal access road of the warehouse was damaged, and that was impacting daily operations at the facility. The client was looking for a solution that would open up access quickly. Challenges included differential settlement due to the movement of 60-ton silo trailers and the non-availability of large size stones rubble soling in the vicinity. Moreover, due to the onset of North-East monsoons, the client postponed the laying of the wearing course, and a solution for immediate access to the internal road was required.

StrataWeb® load support system is used as a foundation reinforcement for enhancing the load-carrying characteristics of weak soils. It helps in confining the soil due to its three-dimensional structure. It aids in distributing the load to a wider area, thereby reducing stresses on the overall crust thickness. It also helps in strengthening the pavement life by reinforcing the soil within.

The ramps of the grade separators are constructed either as embankments with natural slopes or as reinforced soil walls. In the case of partial walls, where sloped embankments are supported on reinforced soil walls, the embankment slopes needed to be given adequate protection against soil erosion, which could otherwise damage the fascia of the underlying reinforced soil wall and also induce seepage into the system. The slopes of the embankments were of the order of 30° with the horizontal. The reinforced soil walls supporting the embankments were as high as 10 m. The heights of the embankments were of the order of 5 m.
