APPLICATION

Reinforcement of vertical mechanically stabilized wall using StrataGrid™

About the project

The construction of the Riyadh metro project commenced, and it required the construction of retaining structures as access towards the metro station. These walls help save land space in busy areas and also enable faster construction.

Strata Geosystems provided the technical expertise and geosynthetic products required for the construction of the retaining wall. The combined years of experience helped reduce the cost of the project without compromising on any quality. The project involved the construction of a retaining wall as access to the metro station. StrataGrid™ 60 (uniaxial flexible geogrid of 60 kN strength) was used for the reinforcement of the vertical MSE wall.

The benefits included utilizing the local infill and jersey barriers, thereby reducing the transportation costs and carbon footprint.

Therefore StrataGrid™ was selected as an innovative solution for the reinforcement of the vertical mechanically stabilized wall.

StrataWeb® geocells – A slope erosion protection system for embankments

The Jordan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) was planning to build a petroleum strategic reserves terminal in the east of Amman, Jordan. They wanted to increase the petroleum storage capacity in the area, which required an increase in the base width of the embankment. The slopes of the embankment required protection from slope erosion.

Slope protection of partial wall on flyover using StrataWeb® geocells

The ramps of the grade separators are constructed either as embankments with natural slopes or as reinforced soil walls. In the case of partial walls, where sloped embankments are supported on reinforced soil walls, the embankment slopes needed to be given adequate protection against soil erosion, which could otherwise damage the fascia of the underlying reinforced soil wall and also induce seepage into the system. The slopes of the embankments were of the order of 30° with the horizontal. The reinforced soil walls supporting the embankments were as high as 10 m. The heights of the embankments were of the order of 5 m.

Rehabilitation of road in the busy city town centre in Karnataka

Monsoons in North Karnataka are notorious for damage to roads. The site was plagued with problems like reflective cracks, potholes, undulating surfaces etc., resulting in slow traffic movement and heavy vehicular damage. This stretch had to be rehabilitated time and again over the past several years, and no solution was proving to be long-term. Since the area is a major commercial hub, it was impossible to close off this section for an extended period completely, so a quick but long-term solution was needed.
