Strata played a key role in the development of Riyadh City North, a new urban project by the Abu Dhabi Municipality, located 30 kilometres from Abu Dhabi.
The extensive project involved various infrastructure components, including stormwater ponds. Collaborating with project consultants, Strata proposed a cost-effective solution by replacing the traditional 600 mm-thick grouted rip-rap with a 100 mm-thick StrataWeb® geocell concrete lining. This innovative approach retained the underlying layers of the geomembrane and geotextile.
The advantages of the StrataWeb® solution were practical and straightforward.
The geocells served as both formwork and expansion joints, simplifying the construction process. The smooth surface of the geocell concrete lining facilitated easier movement for maintenance vehicles compared to the uneven surface of grouted rip-rap.
A notable achievement was the project’s efficiency, with the design and supply of five ponds covering over 500,000 sq m completed in a two-month duration. This showcases the practical benefits of the chosen solution in terms of both time and cost savings. Strata’s contribution played a crucial role in the successful and pragmatic development of Riyadh City North.
