The Public Works Department, Brunei, needed a solution to manage erosion and prevent further scouring of a slope at a building complex in Kiarong, a commercial area in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei.
The key challenges included limited space between the existing fence and the building at the toe of the slope, as well as the steep slope angle and curvature along its length.
A StrataWeb® geocell slope erosion protection system, along with StrataCord™ and StrataFast™ for efficient load transfer, was recommended by geotechnical experts at Strata and ATH Chevron. The selected configuration for this project was SW 660-100, infilled with soil suitable for vegetation.
Due to its flexible structure, StrataWeb® geocells conform to the slope’s contours and can be installed easily along curved sections of the embankment. The perforations enable effective root interlock, allowing vegetation to grow and sustain itself, resulting in a visually appealing green surface that also protects against erosion.
The use of StrataWeb® provided an innovative and effective solution to protect the topsoil and prevent erosion.
