APPLICATION

Soil reinforcement and retaining wall

About the project

The client was looking to build an approach to the crossover, a walkway at Al Bidda Park Doha, Qatar. Considering the limitation of space at the site and the topographic profile of the soil, a reinforced soil wall with geocell fascia was suggested.

The limited footprint availability, aesthetically pleasing solution owing to the landscaping requirement, the topographic profile having variable contour was a challenge.

Our high-quality soil reinforcement products StrataWeb® and StrataGrid™ were used to construct a reinforced soil structure for the approach to the walkway. Strata collaborates with the clients to provide economically sustainable designs. The client required a ‘green’ slope, vegetation of the finished reinforced slope, and hence StrataWeb® green fascia geocells was suggested.

Our reinforced soil wall solution helped the client to save up to 20% of the cost and gave a green look to the reinforced soil wall.

StrataWeb® geocells – A slope erosion protection system for embankments

The Jordan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) was planning to build a petroleum strategic reserves terminal in the east of Amman, Jordan. They wanted to increase the petroleum storage capacity in the area, which required an increase in the base width of the embankment. The slopes of the embankment required protection from slope erosion.

Slope protection of partial wall on flyover using StrataWeb® geocells

The ramps of the grade separators are constructed either as embankments with natural slopes or as reinforced soil walls. In the case of partial walls, where sloped embankments are supported on reinforced soil walls, the embankment slopes needed to be given adequate protection against soil erosion, which could otherwise damage the fascia of the underlying reinforced soil wall and also induce seepage into the system. The slopes of the embankments were of the order of 30° with the horizontal. The reinforced soil walls supporting the embankments were as high as 10 m. The heights of the embankments were of the order of 5 m.

Rehabilitation of road in the busy city town centre in Karnataka

Monsoons in North Karnataka are notorious for damage to roads. The site was plagued with problems like reflective cracks, potholes, undulating surfaces etc., resulting in slow traffic movement and heavy vehicular damage. This stretch had to be rehabilitated time and again over the past several years, and no solution was proving to be long-term. Since the area is a major commercial hub, it was impossible to close off this section for an extended period completely, so a quick but long-term solution was needed.
