Strengthening foundations, supporting better infrastructure

Geogrid base reinforcement for roads and embankments on weak soils

StrataBase™ is an extruded polypropylene, rigid biaxial geogrid that reinforces paved and unpaved road sections and the base of embankments built over weak soils.

Biaxial geogrids have reinforced roads and earth structures for decades, and StrataBase™ carries that track record forward with two features that set it apart: superior junction strength and interlocking aperture stability. Because its high-tensile elements run in two orthogonal directions, StrataBase™ confines and reinforces the soil or granular material around it rather than simply sitting beneath it.

That confinement changes how a pavement section behaves under load. A weak subgrade reinforced with StrataBase™ spreads imposed load over a wider area, so it carries heavier forces without distress. In many applications, this allows the granular course above it to be built thinner (a direct material and construction saving) while also extending maintenance cycles and the working life of the pavement.

Placed at the base of an earth embankment over weak foundation soil, StrataBase™ takes on a different job: it sustains large forces from the embankment through catenary action, drawing on its high tenacity and modulus to hold the structure together where the ground beneath it cannot.

Why choose StrataBase™ for geogrid reinforcement?

Global Geosynthetics Leadership

Strata Geosystems has been a leader in the global geosynthetics market since 2004, in partnership with Strata Geosystems Inc., a subsidiary of the US-based textile veteran Glen Raven. Strata Geosystems provides end-to-end soil reinforcement solutions (supply, design and construction) built around its StrataGrid™ (geogrid) and StrataWeb® (geocell) product lines.

Certified Quality and Standards

Every StrataBase™ roll carries ISO and CE certification, with testing conducted in GAI-LAP accredited labs across the US, UK and India. Strata Geosystems is also a member of the International Geotechnical Society (IGS), contributing to the advancement of geosynthetics worldwide.

Where StrataBase™ is Used

StrataBase™ is engineered for infrastructure that has to perform on ground that can't be trusted to perform on its own.

Roads and Highways

  • Subgrade and foundation improvement: A cost-effective alternative to undercutting and backfilling weak subgrade beneath a road or structure.
  • Roads over weak soils: Reinforcement for road construction over weak soils, replacing costly, time-consuming stabilisation and soil replacement.
  • Highway base stabilisation: Improves the stability and performance of highway pavement systems while reducing maintenance requirements and operational costs.
  • Haul roads: Stabilisation and reinforcement for construction-site haul roads, built to hold up under repeated heavy traffic.

Railways

  • Railway embankments: Reinforces railway embankments over weak soils, cutting down on extensive soil replacement and stabilisation work.
  • Ballast and sub-ballast stabilisation: Improves load distribution and overall track performance by stabilising the ballast and sub-ballast layers.

Airports

  • Runways and aprons: Reinforcement that supports stable pavement structures under demanding aircraft loading conditions.

Industrial and Commercial Facilities

  • Parking lots and heavy-duty areas: Reinforcement for parking lots, truck terminals and tanker terminals, improving ground stability under heavy, repeated traffic.

Ports and Container Terminals

  • Container terminals and laydown areas: Stabilises container terminals and construction laydown areas, particularly where facilities are built over weak or reclaimed marshland.

Mining

  • Mine haul roads: Reinforces and stabilises mining haul roads, maintaining performance under heavy vehicle loading and difficult ground conditions.

Oil and Gas

  • Oil field roads: Stabilises roads at oil-field sites exposed to heavy traffic and demanding operating conditions.
  • Industrial tank foundations: Basal reinforcement for industrial tanks at petrochemical and oil terminals, including tanks built on weak or marshy soils.
