Overview
What is industrial flooring?
An industrial floor is made of a durable surface slab that can handle equipment or machinery weight, transient temperature fluctuations, traffic, and chemical exposures, and is supported by a foundation that can resist settlement and deformation over prolonged periods of time. Strata’s geosynthetic solutions, such as StrataWeb® geocells and StrataGrid™ SGU 40 geogrids, strengthen these foundation layers to enable floors to perform for a longer duration. StrataWeb geocells spread heavy loads from machinery and vehicles evenly across the subgrade, preventing the floor from rutting or cracking. This cellular structure, combined with layers of StrataGrid™ SGU 40 geogrids, ensures that the foundation is tightly confined and stabilized and reducing the risk of uneven settlement over time. As part of our industrial flooring solution, we offer a base system that makes it easy for you to use materials available right on your site ,i.e., up to 15% savings in the up-front costs. So you don’t have to spend extra on expensive natural stones.

Applications of industrial flooring solutions
Industrial flooring is used in environments that demand robust, reliable surfaces capable of supporting heavy loads and enduring harsh conditions. Its primary applications include warehouses, production halls, logistics centers, manufacturing plants, storage facilities, and large retail outlets, spaces where forklifts, pallet trucks, and other heavy machinery move constantly, and where exposure to chemicals, oils, and frequent cleaning is routine. Industrial floors also feature in cold storage units, laboratories, airport hangars, and distribution hubs, as these areas require surfaces that resist abrasion and temperature fluctuations while offering safety features such as slip resistance. StrataWeb® and SGB Grid are installed in the base or sub-base layers of pavements to provide strength, often combining materials such as reinforced concrete, epoxy, polyurethane, or acrylic coatings, depending on the specific needs of the facility.
Key benefits of industrial flooring using geosynthetics:

StrataWeb: Proven industrial floor reinforcement performance
With its three-dimensional honeycomb structure, StrataWeb geocell multiplies load-bearing capacity and stabilizes low-grade fills, reducing differential settlement and minimizing cracking risks in slabs. This means industrial flooring can be installed using materials found on-site, such as steelworks slag, coal ash, or other by-products that are usually hard to use. This reduces the carbon footprint and lessens the need for expensive imported aggregates.
Geocells create a stiffened mattress effect, distributing loads over a wider area. It also confines infill materials within their cellular structure, preventing lateral movement and compaction loss. This reduces stress on the subgrade, preventing localized deformation and securing a stable foundation for the wearing surface.
StrataGrid™ SGU 40 geogrids are embedded below the concrete layer, directly above compacted aggregate fill or subgrade. Their open mesh ensures physical interlock with aggregate particles, enhancing compaction and preventing lateral spread under load. The reinforced system acts as a mechanical stabilizer, creating a composite behavior in which tensile forces from the slab and subgrade are efficiently resisted by the geogrid’s high-strength polymer mesh. This synergy results in a stiffer and more durable industrial floor.
In addition, StrataWeb’s modular flexibility allows staged construction that is adaptive to evolving site layouts and expansion needs. Surface distress typical in forklift lanes or reefer stack zones is statistically lower where StrataWeb reinforces the substrate. while its reinforcement capabilities minimize wear and tear, extending the lifespan of the floor.
