About the project

The location witnesses’ heavy rainfall during which the surface runoff along the embankment slopes erodes the surface soil, forming rills and gullies down the slope, which widen with more runoff. This National project is India’s longest Rail–cum–Road Bridge spanning 4.95 km, connecting the vital link between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The main challenge was the high volume of earthwork involved that included embankments of heights varying from 1.5 m to 15 m.

Since the height of the embankment was of the highest order, we designed the erosion protection solution with StrataWeb® style SW 445-100, a 100 mm deep system with weld spacing of 445 mm. It is a lightweight, and strong, three-dimensional, curvilinear rhomboidal shaped, cellular confinement system. It can be used as a foundation reinforcement mat as well as an erosion control barrier for slope surfaces. This product is long-lasting and robust. It saved 50% of the cost and helped in the faster execution of work.

It is reported that ever since 2016, the site, which was continuously devastated, has shown no signs of degradation, withstanding heavy rains and floods.
