In this project, the Railways Authority in India was seeking a technically advanced and fast solution for slope erosion protection of a railway embankment. The erosion protection measures were mandatory to ensure the protection of the rail tracks.
The client had used stone pitching as a solution earlier but was not satisfied with it. They were looking for a solution that worked and was: 1. Quick and cost-effective 2. Long-lasting with minimal maintenance 3. Aesthetically pleasing 4. Capable of being constructed without stones due to its scarcity.
In contrast to the constraints of the conventional system, the StrataWeb® slope erosion system overcomes these challenges. StrataWeb® was recommended as an appropriate solution by relevant codes and guidelines and is an effective way to protect the soil along the rail embankment. It is reported that the site has shown no signs of degradation and has remained robust through the heavy rains of 2019. CRS inspection (CRS is the government commission of railway safety of India) is over, and it is successful.
The value addition included 5 times faster installation due to ease of StrataWeb® transportation and use of locally available and cheaper material. The solution also saved up to 10% of the cost vs stone pitching.
