About the project
Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) is a special purpose vehicle set up under the administrative control of the Ministry of Railways. The plan to construct dedicated freight corridors across the country marks a strategic inflexion point in the history of the Indian Railways that has essentially run mixed traffic across its network. Once completed, the dedicated freight corridors will enable Indian Railways to improve its customer orientation and meet market needs more effectively. The creation of rail infrastructure on such a scale – previously unprecedented in independent India – is also expected to drive the establishment of industrial corridors and logistic parks along its alignment.
Closer to railway stations, Alstom needed to construct toe walls due to limited right-of-way. In addition, RCC was not a viable option since the project was piecemeal work spread over 300 km.
Moreover, site supervision and control could not be established for such piecemeal work due to losses with pilferage of shuttering and reinforcement material. Vandalism during construction was another challenge.
Strata Geosystems offered a geocell gravity wall with green fascia using its superior quality product – StrataWeb®. StrataWeb® is available in different colours, but green was chosen to complement the vegetation and was implemented in 20 locations across 300 km.
