The Design and Construction of the Reinforced Soil Wall (RS wall) in the Four Laning of Trichy section of NH-227, under the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative, posed complex challenges that necessitated innovative solutions from Strata.
Located in Tamil Nadu, the project faced obstacles such as a flood-prone paddy land, the need for a slip road for village access along the RS wall, constructing a curved RS wall reaching up to 11 metres in height, and addressing the critical junction where the 4-lane and 2-lane sections diverged. Strata’s strategic approach involved raising the ground level with “select fill” to counter flooding, integrating a 6-metre-wide slip road into the RS wall structure for community access, and proposing StrataBlock™ a segmental block fascia RS wall to achieve the desired curvature efficiently.
The incorporation of segmental blocks not only facilitated the construction of a smooth, curved RS wall but also enhanced its aesthetic appeal. Strata’s proprietary StrataBlock™ and StrataGrid™ reinforcement was designed and strategically arranged to avoid overlapping in curved locations, particularly at the concave junction.
Additionally, the introduction of a cross RS wall helped streamline the construction process, effectively managing the bifurcation of the 4-lane and 2-lane sections. The successful implementation of these innovative solutions underscores Strata’s commitment to delivering effective engineering solutions in the face of diverse challenges, making the Trichy NH-227 project a notable success within the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative.
