The Armoured Engineer Regiment, Rajasthan had a critical problem of running its tracked heavy armoured tanks on loose fine sand, resulting in delayed movements and drills. The area was low lying, sometimes in quicksand-type conditions with constant seepage from the surrounding canals. Weights of the various categories of tanks ranged from 14 – 50 tonnes.

StrataWeb® was recommended along with local sand as infill. Importation of better quality infill would have increased costs and logistic problems with tangible benefits, and hence local sand was used instead, quite effectively. Each StrataWeb® panel was interconnected with high strength cable ties.

StrataWeb® geocells filled with cohesionless material formed rigid mats capable of distributing imposed loads over a larger area.

StrataWeb® provides a quick and successful solution for heavy vehicular movement in loose soils. Even when the water table is high, and the CBR is low, StrataWeb® geocells have successfully proved capable to take heavy loads without distress.
